Worshipper Arrested for Praying Atop Railing in Masjid al-Haram

On the 27th night of Ramadan 2026, a worshipper was removed at Masjid al-Haram after being found praying on top of a railing inside the mosque with fellow worshippers playing a key role in alerting authorities.

Makkah Police immediately removed a worshipper at Masjid al-Haram on the 27th night of Ramadan 2026 after he was found standing and praying on top of a railing inside the Sacred Mosque  balancing at height above a crowd of hundreds of thousands of worshippers packed tightly below.

The incident happened on one of the busiest nights of the year, with Masjid al-Haram filled to absolute capacity as pilgrims gathered for what many believe to be Laylat al-Qadr.

The worshipper had climbed onto a railing inside the mosque and positioned himself there to pray  elevated above the crowd with nothing beneath him but a drop into a sea of worshippers.

Visual content capturing the moment came to the attention of the Special Forces for Hajj and Umrah Security, who immediately moved to intervene.

The danger was not theoretical. A single loss of balance, a moment of distraction during prostration, or the natural movement of a crowded mosque could have sent him falling directly onto the worshippers below.

On a night when Masjid al-Haram had reached full capacity, the consequences of such a fall — for him and for those he would have landed on — could have been fatal. Had he fallen, he risked not only breaking his own bones but seriously injuring worshippers in the densely packed area beneath him.

The swift intervention by security was made possible by the alertness of fellow worshippers. Those who spotted the man perched on the railing immediately flagged the situation to authorities rather than waiting to see what would happen.

The Special Forces for Hajj and Umrah Security moved to the location without delay. The necessary legal procedures were completed on the spot, and the individual was brought down from the railing and removed to a designated area.

The intervention was carried out swiftly, without disrupting the prayers of the enormous congregation around him.

Public Security Issues a Direct Warning

Public Security has used the incident to issue a firm reminder to all visitors of the Sacred Mosque. Prayers must be performed exclusively in areas designated for that purpose.

Climbing onto railings, barriers, or any elevated structure inside the mosque is strictly prohibited a violation of the instructions and regulations governing conduct inside Masjid al-Haram that carries serious legal consequences.
