In the face of overwhelming challenges, orchestrated smear campaigns, and a series of petitions targeted at its leadership, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), under the stewardship of Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, has defied the odds by delivering one of the most successful Masha’ir (ritual sites) coordination efforts in recent Hajj history.

Stakeholders and pilgrims alike have continued to shower encomiums on the Commission for the seamless logistics, improved pilgrims’ welfare, and smooth operations witnessed during the peak days of the 2025 Hajj in Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah. Many have called on the Chairman and his management team to observe a sujood ash-shukr prostration of gratitude to Allah  for the divine help and immense success recorded despite the turbulent road that led here.

The beginning of the current administration’s tenure was marked by a barrage of negative media reports, most of which were seen as sponsored attempts to discredit Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman and derail the reforms he set out to implement. From unfounded petitions to orchestrated attacks in both mainstream and social media, the Commission was faced with a credibility test that threatened to dampen morale and hinder operations.

However, through resilience, transparency, and a renewed commitment to serve Nigerian pilgrims better, the leadership of NAHCON has gradually silenced critics with results that speak louder than words.

Reports from the Holy Land indicate that Nigerian pilgrims enjoyed improved transportation, better feeding arrangements, more organized tent allocations, and enhanced medical services across the Masha’ir. Many pilgrims expressed satisfaction, with some describing this year’s experience as “the best in over a decade.”

Alhaji Sani Muhammad Hotoro, a pilgrim from Kano State, said: “We must thank Allah and also thank the leadership of NAHCON. We saw the negative stories before Hajj, but what we experienced here was pure excellence. Everything worked well  from Mina to Arafat to Muzdalifah. We are proud of our Commission.”

Another pilgrim, Hajia Fatima Ibrahim from Lagos, added: “I have been coming for Hajj for six years now. This year’s organization during the Masha’ir is the most coordinated I’ve witnessed. May Allah reward the NAHCON team and continue to guide them.”

Indeed, the unprecedented level of coordination and calm witnessed during this year’s Masha’ir phase is a testament to NAHCON’s meticulous planning, strategic partnerships with Saudi service providers, and above all, divine assistance. It is no surprise that many are calling on the Chairman and his team to prostrate in gratitude to Allah for turning trials into triumph.

As the curtain gradually falls on the 2025 Hajj, one thing is clear: Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman and his team have not only justified the trust placed in them but have also set a new standard of excellence for future Hajj operations in Nigeria
