The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board has intensified efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration as part of preparations for forthcoming Hajj operations, pledging closer engagement with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigeria Customs Service to ensure seamless airlift and screening of pilgrims.

According to the public relations officer of the board, Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, the Director General of the Board, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Matawalle, gave the assurance during separate courtesy visits to key aviation and security stakeholders in Kano.

During a visit to the Regional General Manager of FAAN at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Matawalle said the Board is committed to fostering stronger institutional relationships, particularly in areas of security coordination and operational efficiency during the Hajj airlift.

He explained that effective synergy between the Pilgrims Welfare Board and airport authorities is critical to guaranteeing a smooth and hitch-free experience for intending pilgrims departing through Kano.

Responding, the Regional General Manager of the airport, Alhaji Musa Okikiri, described the visit as strategic and timely.

He revealed that the airport’s Hajj Terminal has been approved for comprehensive renovation by the Federal Government ahead of the next Hajj season, a move aimed at upgrading facilities and enhancing passenger comfort and service delivery.

In a related development, the Director General also visited the Kano/Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service to reinforce cooperation in the area of passenger screening and clearance.

Matawalle emphasized the importance of early sensitization for intending pilgrims, particularly on prohibited and contraband items. He appealed to the Customs Service to support public enlightenment efforts, including participation in radio programmes, to educate pilgrims and reduce avoidable delays during departure formalities.

In his remarks, the Deputy Comptroller of Customs in charge of Administration, Mr. S.S. Shehu, assured the Board of the Command’s full cooperation. He pledged that the Service would work closely with the Board to ensure efficient screening processes while maintaining strict adherence to regulatory standards.

The visits, according to observers, reflect the Board’s proactive strategy to deepen inter-agency collaboration and deliver efficient, secure, and well-coordinated Hajj operations for pilgrims from Kano State.
