The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, announces with deep sorrow the passing of Professor Lanre Yusuf Badmas, a distinguished Islamic scholar and pioneering Commissioner Operations of NAHCON.

In a statement signed by the Technical Assistant (Media) to NAHCON Chairman, Ahmad Muazu, said Professor Badmas passed away at the age of 69 following a brief illness. His leadership helped build the Department of Pilgrims Affairs into a strong operational pillar that continues to support Nigerian pilgrims on the sacred journey each year.

The deceased served with distinction as the inaugural Commissioner for Operations during NAHCON’s foundational stage. His exemplary leadership was instrumental in establishing a robust operational framework that continues to facilitate the Hajj for thousands of Nigerian pilgrims to the Holy Lands.

Throughout his tenure, Professor Badmas demonstrated unwavering commitment to the Commission’s mandate, bringing scholarly excellence, professional discipline, and institutional integrity to every responsibility entrusted to him. His counsel proved invaluable in shaping critical policy frameworks and operational strategies that continue to define NAHCON’s service delivery model.

The Chairman described the late Professor Badmas as a man of exceptional caliber, an erudite scholar, and a strategic visionary whose guidance significantly enhanced both the welfare provisions and spiritual preparedness of Nigerian pilgrims. His enduring contributions have fortified the Commission’s dedication to service excellence and operational efficiency.

On behalf of the Board, Management, and Staff of NAHCON, the Chairman extends heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the government of Kwara State, his professional colleagues, academic associates, and the broader Muslim Ummah who benefited immeasurably from his knowledge and service.

He beseeches Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) to shower His infinite mercy upon the soul of Professor Badmas, to forgive his sins, and to grant him the highest station in Jannatul Firdaus. May the Almighty also grant his family, friends, and all who mourn him the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
