The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) on Monday, 29th September 2025, inaugurated the Committee for the Screening of Hajj Tour Operators for the 2026 pilgrimage at the Hajj House, Abuja.
The Committee, made up of NAHCON management staff and other key representatives from the Secretariat, is mandated to scrutinize applications and documents submitted by intending Hajj Tour Operators seeking licenses for the 2026 exercise.
Speaking on behalf of the Chairman of the Commission, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, the Director of Administration, Alhaji Alidu Shittu, described the inauguration as a major step in preparations for next year’s Hajj. He expressed confidence in the competence of the Committee to deliver on its mandate.
Alhaji Shittu charged the members to ensure thorough scrutiny of documents, with emphasis on validity, accuracy, and compliance with international best practices. He added that only operators who meet the required standards should be recommended for slot allocations.
“You are expected to submit your recommendations to the leadership of the Commission for approval or otherwise, and produce a comprehensive report of your findings at the end of the exercise,” he stated.
He further stressed the urgency of the task, reminding the Committee that it must be concluded within one week, in line with the deadline set by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah for the 2026 operations.
While officially inaugurating the Committee on behalf of the Chairman, Alhaji Shittu urged members to carry out their responsibilities diligently, objectively, and in strict compliance with laid-down guidelines.
He also prayed for the success of their work and expressed optimism that their efforts would greatly enhance the smooth conduct of the 2026 Hajj operations.
