The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has restated its dedication to transparency, due process, and staff welfare following recent media reports alleging internal discord and nepotistic appointments.

The Commission acknowledges the critical role of staff unions in advocating for employees’ interests and fostering constructive dialogue with management. Recently, the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) within NAHCON issued an internal memo concerning staff welfare and the placement of pool officers. The Commission views such communications as standard in organizations that prioritize continuous improvement and employee satisfaction.

However, NAHCON clarifies that an internal memo differs from an external petition. While internal memos serve as tools for engagement within the organization, external petitions often indicate unresolved issues requiring third-party intervention. In this case, the ASCSN’s memo was purely an internal document aimed at fostering dialogue.

Addressing allegations of nepotism, particularly claims that Chairman Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman appointed his son as a Personal Assistant, NAHCON categorically denies such assertions. The Commission reaffirms that all appointments strictly follow civil service regulations and due process. Any reports suggesting otherwise are misleading and aimed at discrediting the integrity of the institution.

Under Professor Usman’s leadership, NAHCON has been proactive in enhancing the Hajj experience for Nigerian pilgrims. Notably, the Commission has reviewed service contracts with Saudi-based providers to ensure a seamless Hajj operation in 2025. These strategic adjustments, made after extensive stakeholder consultations, reflect NAHCON’s commitment to operational efficiency and pilgrim welfare.

Furthermore, the appointment of Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Ali as the new Secretary of the Commission underscores NAHCON’s dedication to strengthening its administrative framework. Dr. Ali brings a wealth of experience and expertise that will contribute to the Commission’s operational success.

While NAHCON recognizes the media’s vital role in ensuring institutional accountability, it urges journalists to uphold accuracy and fairness in their reports. The Commission encourages media practitioners to verify information through official channels to avoid spreading misinformation that could undermine ongoing efforts for a successful Hajj season.

As preparations for Hajj 2025 progress, including visa issuance and the scheduled inaugural flight to Saudi Arabia on May 6, NAHCON calls for collective support from stakeholders. By working together with integrity and commitment, the Commission remains focused on delivering the best services to Nigerian pilgrims and upholding its mandate to the Muslim ummah.
