The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointment of Ismail Yusuf as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
The confirmation came during Thursday’s plenary following the consideration and adoption of a report presented by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Presenting the report, the committee’s chairman, Sani Bello, informed lawmakers that the nominee was screened in accordance with Senate procedures and was found competent and suitable for the position.
According to him, the committee carefully reviewed the nominee’s credentials and experience before recommending his confirmation to the Senate.
Following the adoption of the report, the Senate approved the appointment through a voice vote.
In his remarks, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, congratulated the newly confirmed NAHCON Chairman and wished him success in his new national assignment.
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria is the federal agency responsible for coordinating, regulating, and supervising Hajj and Umrah activities for Nigerian pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia.
With the confirmation of Ismail Yusuf, the commission is expected to further strengthen its leadership structure as preparations continue for upcoming Hajj operations, including strategic planning, engagement with stakeholders, and coordination with relevant authorities in Saudi Arabia to ensure a smooth pilgrimage for Nigerian pilgrims.
Industry observers believe the confirmation comes at a critical period when the commission is intensifying preparations and reforms aimed at improving service delivery, welfare, and overall Hajj management for thousands of Nigerian pilgrims who participate in the annual pilgrimage.
