Amid circulating online confusion, the Media Support Group for NAHCON has clarifies that the current chairman, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, is not under investigation by the National Assembly. The statement comes after a misleading video circulated on social media, sparking uncertainty about the focus of the investigation.
The House of Representatives Investigative Committee recently held a public hearing on November 13 and 14, 2024, to examine alleged irregularities in the 2024 Hajj operations. The circulating video failed to specify that the investigation pertains to NAHCON’s former chairman, not the incumbent, leading to a wave of online speculation.
Ibrahim Abubakar, National Coordinator of the Media Support Team, emphasized that Professor Pakistan took office only after the 2024 Hajj season ended, meaning he was not involved in the activities being investigated. His attendance at the public hearing was solely in his capacity as the current NAHCON chairman, to observe proceedings and better prepare for the future responsibilities of his office.
Abubakar urged the public to disregard any attempts to misrepresent the situation, calling for fairness in reporting and cautioning against what he termed “campaigns of calumny” against Prof. Pakistan. He stressed the importance of accurate information, especially in matters involving national interests and public trust in Hajj management.
The National Assembly’s inquiry aims to shed light on past operations, and NAHCON’s current leadership has expressed a commitment to uphold transparency and accountability in Hajj management moving forward.
