AFGSAN Backs Call to Return NAHCON to SGF’s Office

The Amana Farmers and Grains Suppliers Association of Nigeria (AFGSAN) has backed growing calls for the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to be returned to the coordination of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

In a formal message addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Chairman of the Jigawa State Chapter of AFGSAN, Aliyu Yunusa Yandutse, said the association fully aligns with the arguments presented in a recently circulated open letter advocating for the restructuring.

Yandutse said AFGSAN which comprises thousands of farmers and grain suppliers nationwide considers the welfare and safety of Nigerian pilgrims a matter of national importance that requires administrative stability and professional oversight.

He noted that supervising NAHCON through the SGF had historically ensured better inter-agency cooperation involving aviation, health, security, financial institutions and state governments, all of which are crucial to successful Hajj operations.

The association further argued that SGF-level supervision helps preserve neutrality, continuity and non-politicization of pilgrimage management, stressing that Hajj administration must remain free from regional or partisan influence.

According to the statement, the NAHCON Establishment Act places the Commission under the Presidency, a structure that previous administrations executed through the SGF with “stability and internationally respected improvements.”

AFGSAN urged President Tinubu to order a review of NAHCON’s current supervisory arrangement and restore its administrative oversight to the SGF in line with past practice and legal provisions.

The group maintained that millions of Nigerians who commit their savings to performing Hajj deserve a system that safeguards their resources, dignity and spiritual aspirations.

Offering prayers for the President, AFGSAN expressed confidence that revisiting NAHCON’s supervisory structure would reinforce the administration’s reform agenda and strengthen institutional effectiveness.
