The Gombe State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced a comprehensive vaccination exercise for 965 intending pilgrims as part of preparations for the 2026 Hajj operations.

The initiative aims to safeguard pilgrims’ health and ensure compliance with international travel and public health requirement

The exercise, which begins today, Saturday, at the Hajj orientation venue in Gombe, targets all registered pilgrims scheduled to perform the 2026 Hajj in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Health officials and board staff were on the ground to ensure a smooth and orderly process.

According to officials of the board, the vaccination exercise is a mandatory requirement for all pilgrims, in line with guidelines set by Saudi Arabian authorities. The vaccines administered include those against meningitis, yellow fever, and other communicable diseases.

The Executive Secretary of the Board stated that the exercise is part of early preparations designed to avoid last-minute challenges and ensure that pilgrims meet all health prerequisites before departure. He emphasised that the board remains committed to providing a seamless Hajj experience.

He further explained that the exercise is being conducted in phases to ensure proper coordination and to prevent overcrowding at the vaccination centre. Pilgrims have been scheduled in batches to maintain order and efficiency.

The officials also disclosed that trained doctors and nurses are on standby throughout the exercise to monitor the process and respond to any medical concerns that may arise. Emergency response measures have also been put in place.

In addition to vaccination, health education sessions are being conducted to enlighten pilgrims on personal hygiene, disease prevention, and general health practices during the Hajj. The sessions aim to equip pilgrims with essential knowledge for their journey.

Some of the intending pilgrims who participated in the exercise expressed satisfaction with the level of organisation and professionalism displayed by the board. They commended the government for prioritising their health and safety.

The board reiterated that no pilgrim would be allowed to travel without completing the required vaccination process. Officials stressed that compliance is not only mandatory but critical to the success of the Hajj operation.

Furthermore, arrangements have been made to ensure that all pilgrims receive their vaccination cards and relevant travel health documents promptly. These documents will be required at various stages of the journey.

The vaccination exercise also forms part of broader logistical preparations, including documentation, orientation, and distribution of travel materials. The board has assured that all processes are on schedule.

Officials revealed that the state government has provided full support for the exercise, including the provision of vaccines, medical supplies, and personnel. This support underscores the importance attached to the welfare of pilgrims.

The board urged all intending pilgrims to adhere strictly to the scheduled dates and guidelines provided, warning that failure to comply could affect their eligibility to travel.

As preparations intensify, the Gombe State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a safe, healthy, and successful 2026 Hajj operation for all intending pilgrims from the state.
