The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) wishes to inform the public that Saudi health authorities have continued to enforce strict food safety regulations to safeguard the wellbeing of pilgrims during the Hajj period, particularly in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
In a statement by the Management of NAHCON, said, aspart of these routine health measures, some dinner meals served on the night of 27th May 2026 were found not to have met the required standards for handling and packaging.
Consequently, the meals were immediately rejected in collaboration with NAHCON.
To mitigate the inconvenience caused, the service support company promptly provided alternative light refreshments for the affected pilgrims. In addition, members of the NAHCON Board visited and briefed the affected State officials on the situation.
Meanwhile, the Chairman/CEO of NAHCON, Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, has directed the Security Committee to investigate the caterers involved as well as individuals responsible for facilitating the contracts.
Similarly, the Chairman has instructed the Central Security Committee to thoroughly investigate Tour Operators alleged to have brought in more pilgrims than officially registered, while also exploiting unsuspecting pilgrims.
He warned that any operator found culpable at the end of the investigation will face appropriate sanctions, including withdrawal of operational licenses.
Furthermore, arrangements are already underway to ensure prompt refunds for pilgrims affected by the meal situation.
NAHCON appreciates the patience, understanding, and cooperation of all pilgrims, and reassures them of its unwavering commitment to their welfare and wellbeing throughout the Hajj exercise.
