Kano State has officially commenced the airlift of its pilgrims for the 2025 Hajj, as the first batch of intending pilgrims was flagged off today by the state government.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Board, Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, said, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusif, who was represented by his Deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, performed the symbolic flag-off at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport.
Addressing the pilgrims, the Deputy Governor charged them to uphold the good image of Kano State while in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and to offer special prayers for peace, unity, and national development.
He further reiterated the commitment of the state government to ensuring the welfare, comfort, and safety of all pilgrims throughout their stay in the holy land.
Also speaking at the event, the Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, offered words of encouragement and spiritual guidance. He urged the pilgrims to remain focused, disciplined, and prayerful during the Hajj rituals. The Emir prayed for a safe journey and successful pilgrimage for all.
In his remarks, the Director General of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Lamin Rabi’u Danbappa, revealed that the first flight comprises 560 pilgrims drawn from eleven local government areas, in addition to 25 officials. These include 15 state-appointed officials and 10 national Hajj officials.
The breakdown of pilgrims by local government is as follows:
Ajingi: 15 (10 males, 5 females)
Tofa: 17 (12 males, 5 females)
Tudun Wada: 115 (84 males, 31 females)
Doguwa: 94 (73 males, 21 females)
Bebeji: 82 (67 males, 15 females)
Garin Malam: 47 (33 males, 14 females)
Gaya: 14 (10 males, 4 females)
Madobi: 36 (21 males, 15 females)
Kabo: 18 (13 males, 5 females)
Wudil: 36 (30 males, 6 females)
Rimin Gado: 33 pilgrims
The pilgrims departed aboard a Max Air flight to Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madina at about 12:11 PM.
Alhaji Danbappa commended the unwavering support of Governor Abba Kabir Yusif in facilitating smooth Hajj operations and ensuring that Kano pilgrims receive the best possible care throughout the spiritual exercise.
The event was attended by key government officials including the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Alhaji Yusif Lawan, board members, commissioners, and special advisers.
