The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Ambassador Ismail Yusuf Abba, has extended heartfelt greetings and prayers to Nigerian pilgrims observing the sacred Day of Arafat alongside millions of Muslims across the world.
In a message to pilgrims on the spiritually significant day, the NAHCON Chairman described Arafat as the pinnacle of Hajj, symbolizing mercy, forgiveness, supplication and total submission to Almighty Allah.
He said the Day of Arafat offers pilgrims the opportunity for deep reflection, sincere repentance and renewed commitment to righteousness, sacrifice and service to humanity.
According to him, lessons from previous Hajj exercises continue to guide the Commission in improving its operations and enhancing the welfare and comfort of Nigerian pilgrims.
The Chairman noted that Nigeria’s Hajj administration has recorded remarkable progress over the years, especially compared to earlier periods when pilgrims spent lengthy periods in transit camps awaiting airlift operations.
He, however, acknowledged that despite the improvements achieved, there remains room for further progress and operational reforms.
Ambassador Ismail Yusuf Abba assured pilgrims that the Commission would carefully review all challenges observed during the current Hajj exercise with a view to correcting shortcomings and strengthening supervision in future operations.
He explained that NAHCON itself was established to address long-standing challenges affecting Hajj administration in Nigeria, adding that the Commission remains committed to upholding the vision of its founding fathers through dedication, discipline and sincerity.
The NAHCON Chairman also announced that the Commission successfully renegotiated the cost of feeding services in Madinah, with the resulting savings to be refunded directly to pilgrims.
He appreciated the support and understanding extended to the Commission by stakeholders, partners and pilgrims throughout the exercise.
Ambassador Ismail Yusuf Abba further commended the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying his leadership and commitment contributed significantly to the successes recorded in the 2026 Hajj operations.
He also expressed gratitude to Vice President Kashim Shettima for providing direction and supporting the implementation of relevant policies that enhanced the exercise.
The Chairman equally praised the management and staff of NAHCON for their dedication and sacrifices throughout the Hajj operations.
He reassured Nigerian pilgrims that adequate arrangements have been put in place to ensure a safe, smooth and seamless return journey after the completion of Hajj rites.
Ambassador Ismail Yusuf Abba prayed for Allah’s mercy, forgiveness and guidance, urging pilgrims to embrace unity, patience and wisdom.
He also prayed for the acceptance of the Hajj and the safe return of all pilgrims to their families and communities.
