The Madinah Municipality has planted 5,444 trees across streets, roads and public sites in the central area surrounding Masjid an-Nabawi (Prophet’s Mosque) as part of efforts to improve the city’s environment and enhance the experience of visitors and worshippers.
The municipality said the central area around the Prophet’s Mosque has about 9,930 square metres of green spaces, spread across 1,385 planting beds.
The landscaping project forms part of the municipality’s efforts to improve the appearance of the central area, which receives large numbers of worshippers and visitors throughout the year.
According to the municipality, the trees and other plants have been carefully integrated with the area’s roads, buildings and public facilities, creating a more attractive and environmentally friendly setting around the mosque.
The municipality said maintaining the greenery is an ongoing process involving regular irrigation, pruning, cleaning, maintenance and inspection to ensure the trees and planting beds remain in good condition throughout the year.
The landscaped areas are also located along major movement routes leading to Masjid an-Nabawi, including roads and areas around bus and vehicle parking facilities.
The municipality said the initiative contributes to creating more attractive open spaces and improving the overall urban landscape of Madinah, particularly in the busy central area surrounding the Prophet’s Mosque.
