The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has officially flagged off the inaugural airlift of pilgrims from the FCT to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the 2026 Hajj exercise.
The ceremony, held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, witnessed the departure of 315 intending pilgrims in the first batch from the Territory.
Addressing the pilgrims before departure, the Minister urged them to uphold discipline, patriotism, and obedience throughout their pilgrimage, stressing the need for them to represent both Nigeria and the FCT with dignity while in the Holy Land.
She described the commencement of the airlift operation as a significant milestone and a demonstration of the FCT Administration’s determination to ensure a hitch-free Hajj operation for all intending pilgrims from the Territory.
Dr. Mahmoud also offered prayers for the pilgrims’ safety, successful pilgrimage, and spiritual fulfillment during their stay in Saudi Arabia.
The Minister expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support to the FCT Administration, reaffirming the commitment of the Administration to the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government.
She further commended the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for his leadership and unwavering support toward the successful coordination of Hajj activities in the FCT.
Highlighting the importance of Hajj as a fundamental pillar of Islam, Dr. Mahmoud advised the intending pilgrims to remain law-abiding and devoted to prayers throughout the exercise.
“You are guests of Allah. Obey the rules guiding the pilgrimage and continue to pray for peace, unity, and progress in Nigeria,” she told the pilgrims.
She also congratulated the pilgrims for successfully completing all screening and orientation programmes organized by the FCT Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, noting that their perseverance demonstrated their preparedness for the spiritual journey.
