The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has warned members of the public against unauthorised social media accounts and pages using the Commission’s name, logo and institutional identity to disseminate information without approval.
According to the statement issued by the Head of Information and Publications of the Outfit, Shafii Sani Mohammed, the Commission said some individuals and groups were operating fake Facebook pages, groups and other social media platforms, creating a false impression of official affiliation with NAHCON.
In a public disclaimer signed by the Head of Information and Publications Division, Shafii Sani Mohammed, the Commission clarified that it neither owns, operates, endorses nor authorises any social media platform outside its recognised official communication channels.
NAHCON expressed concern over the circulation of unverified, misleading and potentially harmful information through such unauthorised platforms, warning that the practice could mislead members of the public and damage the Commission’s reputation.
It therefore urged the public to obtain information about Hajj and Umrah activities exclusively through its verified communication channels, which include its official website, nahcon.gov.ng, and its Facebook, X and Instagram accounts, all under the handle @nigeriahajjcom. Its official YouTube channel is youtube.com/@nahcom.
The Commission also advised the public to disregard announcements and publications circulated through unauthorised pages and groups, avoid sharing unverified information and report suspicious accounts using its name, logo or identity without permission.
NAHCON further warned administrators of such platforms to immediately stop misrepresenting the Commission, using its institutional identity without authorisation or publishing misleading content in its name.
It added that it reserved the right to take appropriate administrative and legal action to protect its identity, reputation and institutional interests.
The Commission urged members of the public to always rely on its recognised official communication platforms for accurate and verified information on Hajj and Umrah activities.
