In a move aimed at easing the return journey for Kano pilgrims, the Director General of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Lamin Rabi’u Danbappa, on Thursday, flagged off the official tagging of pilgrims’ luggage ahead of their airlift back to Nigeria.

The exercise, which is set to begin tonight, marks a critical phase in the board’s post-Hajj logistical arrangements. The symbolic ceremony took place at Kano House No. 1 in Shahri Mansur and drew the presence of key stakeholders including Max Air representatives, Hajj operations officials, government dignitaries, and journalists.

During the event, Alhaji Lamin personally tagged several bags with Max Air identification labels—signifying their association with Kano State pilgrims. He described the tagging process as part of broader efforts to ensure an orderly, secure, and efficient return of pilgrims after fulfilling their spiritual obligations.

“This initiative is not just about identifying luggage,” he said. “It is about safeguarding the comfort and dignity of our pilgrims. It is also a preventive measure against smuggling and the inclusion of unauthorized items in pilgrims’ belongings.”

He further explained that guidelines have been set in place to regulate the type of goods that can be transported, and warned against violations that could disrupt the smooth return process.

Alhaji Lamin also extended his gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his continued support, as well as to Max Air and other partners who contributed to making the process possible.

The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board sees this effort as part of its modernization drive in Hajj operations—aimed at improving service delivery and reducing stress for the pilgrims.

With this development, the board is reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of pilgrims, right from their departure to the Holy Land until their safe return home.
