The Independent Hajj Reporters (IHR) have honoured the Executive Governor of Kano State with a prestigious 2026 Hajj Support Award, in recognition of the state government’s commitment to the welfare of pilgrims and its efforts to improve the Hajj administration.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Board, Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, the award was received on behalf of the Governor by the Chairman, Board of Directors, Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Yusif Lawan, at an award ceremony held at the Central Mosque, Abuja.
Speaking while receiving the award, Alhaji Yusif Lawan expressed profound appreciation to the Independent Hajj Reporters for recognising the efforts of the Kano State Government in supporting pilgrims and contributing to the development of the Hajj administration.
He described the award as both a recognition of the government’s commitment and an encouragement to do more to ensure that Kano pilgrims undertake the sacred journey with dignity, comfort, safety and peace of mind.
Alhaji Yusif Lawan said Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and a deeply spiritual obligation. For this reason, he said, the administration considers the welfare of pilgrims a responsibility that goes beyond government policy, describing it as a sacred trust that requires commitment, compassion and accountability.
According to him, the Kano State Government has, over the years, introduced various interventions aimed at improving the welfare of pilgrims and enhancing the quality of Hajj operations in the state.
He, however, acknowledged that there is always room for improvement, stressing that the government remains committed to working with relevant institutions, stakeholders and Hajj service providers to identify challenges and develop sustainable solutions.
Alhaji Yusif Lawan also commended the Independent Hajj Reporters for their continued role in promoting transparency, accountability and professionalism in Hajj administration.
He noted that the organisation’s reporting and advocacy efforts have contributed significantly to improving the experiences of Nigerian pilgrims and strengthening public confidence in the Hajj process.
He emphasised that the award should not be seen as belonging to the Governor alone, but as a recognition of the collective efforts of the dedicated officials, religious leaders, Hajj administrators, service providers and other stakeholders who work tirelessly to ensure that Kano pilgrims receive the necessary support throughout the Hajj exercise.
The Chairman reiterated the commitment of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board to continuous improvement, effective coordination and the provision of quality services to pilgrims.
He assured that the Board would continue to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders to address emerging challenges and ensure that Kano pilgrims receive the best possible support before, during and after the Hajj exercise.
