The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, has declared that the Commission has commenced structured preparations for the 2026 Hajj medical operations, in line with health guidelines issued by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Professor Usman made this known on Monday, 29th December 2025, while addressing State Medical Team Leads at a meeting held at the Conference Hall of Hajj House.
He explained that the meeting was convened to initiate early planning and coordination for effective healthcare delivery to Nigerian pilgrims during the 2026 Hajj exercise.
According to him, medical services remain a core responsibility of all stakeholders involved in Hajj operations and must be handled with professionalism, discipline, and strict adherence to international standards.
The NAHCON Chairman emphasized that the 2026 Hajj health guidelines issued by Saudi authorities are mandatory and non-negotiable, noting that Nigeria must fully comply with all stipulated requirements to ensure the safety and wellbeing of its pilgrims.
“As the regulator of Hajj operations in Nigeria, NAHCON takes this responsibility seriously. We are determined to ensure that medical services provided to Nigerian pilgrims meet acceptable international and Saudi standards,” he stated.
Professor Usman stressed the need for unity of purpose among the Commission, state governments, and medical teams, adding that effective coordination and early preparation are key to successful healthcare delivery during Hajj.
He further assured the participants of NAHCON’s full support, pledging continuous guidance, coordination, and oversight throughout the preparation process to ensure that no aspect of pilgrim healthcare is compromised.
The NAHCON Chairman commended the State Medical Team Leads for their prompt response to the invitation and their sustained commitment to the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims, describing their participation as a reflection of shared responsibility and dedication.
The meeting is expected to produce actionable strategies aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s medical preparedness ahead of the 2026 Hajj operations.
