Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving Hajj operations, pledging full support to the Borno State Hajj Commission ahead of the 2027 pilgrimage.
The governor made the commitment on Wednesday at the Government House in Maiduguri while receiving the report on the 2026 Hajj exercise from the Executive Chairman of the Borno State Hajj Commission, Professor Yakubu Yunus.
Governor Zulum praised the commission for the successful conduct of the 2026 Hajj, describing the report as an important document that would guide efforts to strengthen future operations. He said the government would carefully review the report to build on the successes recorded and address areas requiring improvement.
He stressed that preparations for the 2027 Hajj must begin immediately, noting that adequate planning remains key to delivering a smooth and successful pilgrimage.
The governor also called for improved coordination and teamwork among members and officials of the commission, describing effective collaboration as essential to achieving better results. He further assured the commission of continued government support, including improved welfare and remuneration for its members and staff to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of the Borno State Hajj Commission, Professor Yakubu Yunus, presented the 2026 Hajj report and described the exercise as one of the most successful in the state’s history.
He attributed the achievement to the dedication, commitment and collective efforts of the commission’s officials, while expressing appreciation to Governor Zulum for his consistent support throughout the pilgrimage.
Professor Yunus specifically thanked the governor for facilitating quality accommodation for Borno pilgrims in Makkah and for providing Hadaya and Ihram for the state’s pilgrims.
The presentation ceremony was attended by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani; Acting Chief of Staff, Dr. Babagana Mustapha Malumbe; commissioners, special advisers and other senior government officials.
