The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has reduced the mandatory bank guarantee for licensed private Hajj operators from ₦250 million to ₦100 million ahead of the 2027 Hajj exercise.
The decision followed a formal appeal by the Association of Hajj and Umrah Operators of Nigeria (AHOUN), which raised concerns over the financial burden imposed by the initial requirement.
In a letter dated August 3, 2026, NAHCON confirmed that it had reviewed the association’s submissions, including the potential impact of the ₦250 million guarantee on operators under the prevailing economic climate.
According to the commission, the revised ₦100 million bank guarantee is intended to strike a balance between easing the financial pressure on operators and maintaining adequate safeguards for Nigerian pilgrims. NAHCON added that the measure would also strengthen transparency, improve service delivery, and enhance professionalism within the Hajj industry.
The letter, signed by Hafsatu Baba Tela on behalf of the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NAHCON, expressed appreciation to AHOUN for its engagement and reiterated the commission’s commitment to implementing reforms aimed at ensuring a more efficient and accountable 2027 Hajj operation.
